ABOUT GR CARE

People deserve more than a formula for recovery.

That belief shapes GR Care, an adult residential substance use treatment program in Oroville, California. We bring clinical care together with meaningful experiences, mindfulness, and connection because a person’s life can’t be understood through substance use alone.

The way someone handles stress, relates to others, cares for their body, or finds enjoyment matters. So do their past experiences and the future they want. Our work is to make room for those parts of the person while providing the structure that treatment requires.

OUR MISSION

GR Care exists to help people heal beyond substance use by addressing the experiences, patterns, relationships, and needs of the whole person. We help clients explore what’s been getting in the way and practice healthier ways forward that feel personally meaningful.

We want someone to leave treatment with more than information about recovery. We want them to have opportunities to try different responses, experience supportive relationships, and discover reasons to keep investing in their life. Building a life they genuinely want to return to is the purpose behind the work.

OUR VISION

We envision treatment as a place to reset, heal, and recalibrate. A place where people can step back from familiar patterns, become more aware of their choices, and consider what a healthier life might look like.

That vision leaves room for different paths. People arrive with different beliefs, histories, and motivations. Our role is to offer guidance and meaningful opportunities for growth while helping each person take an active part in shaping their recovery.

WHAT OUR VALUES LOOK LIKE IN PRACTICE

DIGNITY

You deserve to be treated with respect, including when a conversation is difficult or a boundary is necessary. Your past, substance use, or return to use doesn’t erase your worth. Treatment should create room for honesty without defining you by your hardest moments.

INDIVIDUALITY AND CHOICE

Your treatment history and preferences give us useful information. We want to understand what has helped, what hasn’t connected, and what you’re willing to explore. We offer structure and clinical guidance while helping you build confidence in decisions you’ll eventually make beyond treatment.

CONNECTION

Trust can develop through an important conversation or through small, repeated experiences of being included. Shared meals, peer relationships, and everyday interactions all matter. We want the residence to be a place where people have opportunities to feel known and participate in community.

MINDFUL AWARENESS

We describe mindfulness as “paying attention, with purpose, without judgment.” It’s a way of approaching daily life as well as a practice. Noticing an emotion, a physical sensation, or an automatic reaction can become the starting point for a more intentional choice.

A LIFE WITH ROOM FOR ENJOYMENT

Recovery asks people to change familiar patterns. It should also make room to discover what they want to move toward. Movement, curiosity, time outdoors, rest, and healthy relationships can help people explore what gives their days meaning and enjoyment.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe people are more than the decisions they made while struggling.
We believe there’s no single path that works for everyone.
We believe people need opportunities to practice the choices they’ll make outside treatment.
We believe experiences can teach lessons that words alone can’t.
We believe physical health, relationships, habits, and everyday responsibilities deserve attention in care.
We believe treatment should respect each person’s dignity and capacity for change.

THE PEOPLE BEHIND YOUR CARE

Clinical knowledge matters. So does the ability to listen, explain, and build a working relationship. Our approach depends on people who can offer guidance while treating clients as adults with valuable insight into their own lives.

WHAT “WELCOME HOME” MEANS TO US

It means being welcomed into a setting where you can do difficult work without losing your sense of being a person. There are responsibilities, boundaries, and expectations. There’s also room to share a meal, ask a question, learn something new, or enjoy a moment with other people.

That combination is central to GR Care. Treatment should help you participate more fully in life, and the way you experience treatment should reflect that purpose.
